In 2003, Louisiana legislation was enacted providing for a pre-release program to be established within the Louisiana adult corrections system that is to provide 100 hours of life skills training to those individuals within a year of release.      With approximately 15,000 state inmates being released each year back into communities all across the state of Louisiana, it is imperative that these individuals are provided with the necessary skills and resources to insure their success as contributing members of society as well as assisting their families.  In the U.S. today over 2 million people are incarcerated.   An even harsher statistic is that there are over 75,000 children in the U.S. who have at least one parent incarcerated and of those children at least 85% are destined to follow in their parent's footsteps.

Refined By Fire Ministries, Inc. through its Inmate Education Initiative program, is working in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections CORe Program(Corrections Organized For Re-entry) to carry out the legislatively mandated Pre-Release Program as well as assist in developing a Post-Release Program as well.   With an ever increasing incarceration rate, as well as a continued high recidivism rate, such programs are sorely needed.
